The Protection of Personal Information Act (POPI) calls for organisations to take reasonable security measures to

ensure the destruction and storage of all personal information in accordance with industry standards. Organisations

have a responsibility to put policies and practices in place to prevent data breaches of any kind. The Protection

of Personal Information Act (POPI) in South Africa enforces the protection of personal information and could result

in fines of up to R10 million or imprisonment. Cross cut shredders have become the industry standard for POPI

compliance
